About Our Club

Croydon & District Obedience Dog Club Inc. is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer-run organisation dedicated to promoting positive reinforcement training methods and responsible dog ownership while helping our members to enjoy life with their dogs.

In addition to teaching puppy and basic obedience classes, we train for, participate in and run a variety of canine sporting events as an affiliate of Dogs Victoria (Victorian Canine Association).

For the benefit of our members, our class numbers are limited to ensure handlers and dogs are given adequate levels of assistance.  Depending on the number of instructors we have available, this can mean there will be a long waiting period for class availability.

Please monitor this page and/or our Facebook for specific details of enrolment dates. Any free places will be filled quickly!

For further details about our training principles and enrolment, please visit our Training and Membership pages.

WHY ARE SO FEW PLACES AVAILABLE?

Our membership is consistently at capacity because:

  1. High demand.
Not meaning to brag, but there is extreme demand for training with us. Every time we open up a class, it sells out almost instantly, for which we are immensely grateful to our wonderful community.

  2. Our courses are comprehensive.
New puppy classes run for two months and new basic obedience classes run for three months. This means there are long periods of time before our instructors free up to take on a new class.

  3. Priority for current members.
Our current members are in it for the long run. We’ve seen fewer members cease training after completion of the basic levels, which means fewer places available to non-members. Once you’re a member with our club, you can continue on through our various levels and disciplines as long as you please.

  4. Most members start in pre-school.
We have never stopped accepting new memberships at the pre-school level, and all our pre-school classes are completely full. These puppies then continue on into our puppy level, and then our basic obedience levels, and so forth. This too means limited availability to open up to non-members at these levels. With limited exceptions, we are unable to offer places to new members with dogs over 12 weeks of age.
